2008 Movies

Last night Michael and I were talking about how much we like going to the movies. We also talked about how we usually only go to movies I want to see because 1) I’m just selfish like that and b) every movie I want to see, he wants to see as well. He is not nearly as picky as I am.

This got me thinking about how many movies we actually went to this year and what they were. I Googled 2008 movies to find a list so that I could figure out what we went to and what I wanted to go to, but never quite made (hello, On Demand!). I realized we did not go to nearly as many movies as I thought we did, although some of the movies we saw more than once. I also decided that this list would be a good filler blog post. I also decided it would be even better if I included my 2 cents on these movies.

So, without further ado: Movies I saw in 2008

Baby Mama I thought it was pretty funny. Predictable, but funny. I remember Ed and Armann hated it, but they are worse film snobs than me, so . . .
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button SO long and SO, SO boring. Michael cried. I decided I should purposely trip and spill popcorn for REAL entertainment
The Dark Knight WOW. I just LOVED this movie. We saw it first in Imax and I was blown away. Now that I own it, I watch it every weekend. I love it THAT much.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall Heidi made me watch this. It wasn’t bad, per se. Just predictable and not nearly as funny as it should have been. Especially because I was high when I watched it.
Get Smart I am not ashamed to admit that I pretty much love everything Steve Carell does. I think he is so different in every movie he does. In any case-loved the original show and really loved the movie.
Horton Hears a Who! Steve Carrell, Jim Carrey in a cartoon. Super cute, even if the ending left something to be desired.
Iron Man OK, so Dawn totally loved this movie, which is the ONLY reason I watched it. Then I died. From boredom.
Milk One of the best movies ever made. Every actor is amazing. Very poignant and a must see for everyone
My Best Friend’s Girl Heidi made me watch it. I can’t even remember who was in it or what it was about. I only remember seeing it because Michael reminded me.
Pineapple Express See, I am totally in love with the Seth Rogen, Judd Apatow crowd. I can not get enough of the 40 Year Old Virgin or Superbad. Their movies are gold to me. I can’t wait until the DVD comes out so I can spend every Friday night high and laughing
Sex and the City See here
Smart People I thought it was good. Good story, good characters.Nothing too outstanding, but worth watching a few times.
Tropic Thunder So, this was supposed to be HILARIOUS. Tom Cruise was supposed to be oh-so funny. Sure, I laughed a few times (never at him), but Ben Stiller-time to step it up. Judd Apatow and his gang are giving you a run for your money. Although, special mention to Justin Theroux, who co-wrote. I adore him.
War, Inc This had Hilary Duff in it. It’s supposed to be some great commentary on our country and wars and fdka fjmud Oh. Sorry. I fell asleep on the keyboard.
Yes Man I totally loved this movie. Funny, cute, cheesy and good music. If I am going to watch fluff-it should be exactly like this.

Movies I wanted to see, but never made it (i.e. future rentals):

Doubt
Hamlet 2
Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist
Rachel Getting Married
Role Models
Savage Grace
Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Since Michael and Heidi usually only get to see movies I want to see, I have promised them both they get a certain number of movies I have to go see with them this year, even if I don’t want to. That number was going to be 5. However, seeing my list and realizing I only went to 15 movies last year, that would equal 10 horrible movies (notice I implied all their picks would be horrible). No fucking way. They get 3. And in light of the evidence, I think that is pretty generous. Clearly, I am GIVING and self-less in 2009.

By the way!!! In my research of 2008 movies, I discovered a movie named Donkey Punch. I didn’t see it. How is that possible?!?!

Pokes on: "2008 Movies" (3)

  1. I am under pressure, there are so many movies I want to see and lets be honest Jeni, you will hate them. Though I am very excited that you are willing to see my crappy movies, there are so many I want to see. I am going to have to make a list, check it twice and really consider my choices here.

  2. I can’t get enough Seth Rogan. I want to have his sweaty, hairy little babies.

Pineapple Express was one of my favorites this year.

Heh. My word verification is “snach”.

    @Chickie:

YES. I would like some of those sweaty, hairy little babies, as well.

Tomorrow night = Pineapple Express, weed, Heidi and me

Speaking of word verification. . . I am kind of impressed that I don’t have to enter one, since I am signed in as me. Well done, google.
